The GST Council, in its 54th meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, recommended the rollout of a pilot project for Business-to-Consumer ( B2C ) e-Invoicing. This initiative follows the successful implementation of e-invoicing in the Business-to-Business ( B2B ) sector. The Council highlighted that e-invoicing for retail transactions (B2C) could bring several advantages, improving efficiency and transparency in the retail sector. The Council recognized potential benefits of e-invoicing in retail, such as improved business efficiency, environmentally friendly, cost efficiency to the business, etc. It would also provide an opportunity to the retail customers to verify the reporting of the invoice in the GST return. The pilot will be rolled out on voluntary basis in selected Sectors and States.” For consumers, e-invoicing offers a unique opportunity to verify the reporting of their invoices in the GST return system.
