TheGoods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced that GST registrations will be automatically suspended if taxpayers do not provide their bank account details within 30 days of registration or before filing details of outward supplies in GSTR-1 or IFF, whichever is earlier.
What taxpayers need to know
- Mandatory requirement: All taxpayers, except those registered under TCS, TDS, or special cases, must furnish their bank account details.
- Deadline: Bank details must be submitted within 30 days of receiving GST registration or before filing the first GSTR-1 or IFF return, whichever comes earlier.
- Automatic suspension: If bank details are not furnished within the deadline, the GST system will suspend the registration.
How to update bank details
- Taxpayers can add their bank account details by visiting:
Services → Registration → Amendment of Registration (Non-Core Fields).
- Once the details are updated, cancellation proceedings will be dropped automatically.
- If the system does not drop the proceedings on the same day, taxpayers can manually initiate the process through:
Services → User Services → View Notices and Orders → Initiate Drop Proceedings.
Exemptions
- OIDAR (Online Information Database Access and Retrieval) and NRTP (Non-Resident Taxpayers) are not required to furnish bank details.
- However, OIDAR taxpayers who appoint a representative in India must provide bank account details.
