Over 26,000 Income Tax Appeals Filed Electronically via ITAT E-Filing Portal: PIB

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) through a press release stated that the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) has recorded over 26,000 electronic filings of appeals and applications through its dedicated e-filing portal as of February 28, 2025. The e-filing portal which was designed to facilitate electronic submission of appeals, petitions, and related documents, is gaining acceptance among stakeholders. The ITAT recorded over 26,000 appeals and applications were filed electronically through e-filing portal before various benches of ITAT up to 28.02.2025. The PIB stated that the provision of free and high-speed internet at various benches of ITAT has been provided through Optical fiber cable (OFC) which gave access to all stakeholders. The new office premises in Delhi and Lucknow have been equipped with state-of-the-art video conferencing systems in order to provide better hybrid/virtual hearing experience to the stakeholders. These upgrades including installation of latest equipment allows for uninterrupted virtual and hybrid hearings to the stakeholders. The ITAT has implemented virtual hearings at all benches which were in compliance with the directions issued by the Supreme Court of India.

Click here The ITAT conducted 1,22,302 virtual hearings via video conferencing across various benches from July 2023 to December 2024. The PIB also highlighted that the benches of ITAT are not declining requests from the parties for virtual hearings. It is also significant to mention that the Supreme Court facilitated hybrid/virtual hearings from the covid pandemic. This digital transformation of the ITAT is not only easing the burden on the judiciary but also empowering citizens and professionals to engage more effectively with the justice system.
